Thinning Hair and Keratin Hair Straightening

Natural hair keratin is one of many fibrous structural proteins. Keratin is a protein that helps protects epithelial cells from damage or stress. Keratin is insoluble in water and organic solvents. Keratin is also the main structural component that makes up the outer layer of human skin. Human hair contains water, lipids, traces of mineral elements, melanin and keratin which is the main component. Keratin is organised within the cortex of the hair and resembles a rope. Hair is very strong and its strength is due to the rope like way keratin is organised in the cortex. Keratin is the essential protein component of hair.

Keratin Hair Straightening does not recreate natural hair keratin. This is the fact that needs to be understood. Science allows the understanding of how natural keratin is formed, to be recreated with other molecules. In most cases of cosmetic products, these molecules are synthetic. Keratin hair straightening ingredients may no longer contain the dangerous ingredient formaldehyde, but, the action these other keratin ingredients have on the hair is a ‘coating’.

Keratin Hair Straightening:

  • Keratin is the main component of human hair
  • Keratin Hair Straightening does not recreate natural hair keratin
  • Keratin hair straightening coats the hair
  • Keratin coating will snap damaged hair

Nowadays, keratin hair straightening coats the hair. The idea is to coat the hair to smooth the cuticle which in turn should relax curly hair and smooth damaged hair. The flaw here is a coating restrict hair from its natural ability to stretch and return, called elasticity. When the hair has no elasticity, it simply snaps. The same happened to dry hair with no moisture, it becomes porous and snaps easily.

For naturally curly and uncontrollable hair due to natural hair type, keratin hair straightening is a golden solution. However, the power of keratin hair straightening has been overpromoted and the actual effect on the hair has been forgotten. Now consider your hair is not growing properly, the structure has changed, you may have thinning hair. A coating to try a control the flyaway damaged hair will cause much more harm than good. The keratin coating will snap the already damaged hair.

Keratin hair straightening and keratin hair relaxing are not suitable solutions for hair that has changed. If you have had hair loss or are experiencing hair thinning, please don’t turn to keratin solutions. Get a correct diagnosis which can help you repair the hair the only natural way, from the inside out.
